Patrick Lane

Hi there,

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, I have always had a curious mind for how objects and buildings, big and small, were designed and made. With a background in industrial design and furnishing technology, I pride myself on solving problems through both digital and physical design processes with vast attention to detail and the ability to think from the user's perspective.

In 2009 I completed my Diploma in Furnishing Technology at the School of Design RMIT TAFE, specialising in furniture design, building and manufacturing.  In 2010 I was honoured to receive the Victorian Furnishing Industry Diploma in Furnishing Technology Award award in recognition of my final furniture piece at the completion of my RMIT diploma - The "Squash" coffee table. I went on to complete my Bachelors of Industrial Design at Monash University, graduating with Honours in 2015. In the same year I received the 25th NewStar Design Award, a national award highlighting excellence in design across multiple disciplines by young designers across Australia. I now reside in Seattle (USA), working in the aviation industry as a Technical Designer at TEAGUE.

In my spare time I love to get outdoors and explore. I love to travel and see the world, experiencing different cultures, languages, cuisines and indulge myself in the design and architecture of the places I visit. I love to cook with a keen interest in developing new culinary skills. I am a big movie buff, with a passion for filmmaking and photography. I'm also an avid sports person who loves to partake in sports as either a spectator or player - you'll often fine me on the basketball court!
Being an oral deaf person who can hear and talk thanks to the wonders of Cochlear technology, for the past 6 years I have proudly represented Australia in Deaf Basketball, having taken part in 4 international competitions - 2x Deaflympics (Olympics for Elite Deaf Athletes), 1x World Deaf Basketball Championships, and 1 x Asia Pacific Deaf Games (we finished undefeated, winning gold!).

Working mainly in the aviation industry, my role as a Technical Design includes the interpretation, design and implementation of client data for validation purposes. This includes:
- Interpreting client data files.
- Prototype design (engineering validation, UX testing, sales mock ups).
- Rapid prototyping (3D Printing – in-house and vendor)
- Detailed design and technical drawings for manufacture and assembly.
- Vendor coordination and communication.
- Mock-up/validation build coordination.
- Solidworks & Rhino
- Adobe CC Suite
- Microsoft Office Suite
