Bamboo Coffee Table
The "Squash" coffee table with drawers on all sides was a designed and constructed during the final year of my Furnishing Technology diploma at RMIT TAFE (2009).
The brief was to design a furniture piece that resembles "hidden features" within.
The focus of the Squash coffee table was to create a center-room piece, exploring how to create aesthetically pleasing contrasts by using one primary material and one manufacturing method (CNC).
The design was modelled on AutoCAD and CNC codes were created from scratch.
It is a flat pack design, easy to assemble and incredibly strong. Whole frame made of natural bamboo board coated with a natural water-based stain.
Drawer compartments are made from plywood.
I prepared the detailed design drawing (AutoCAD) and manufactured all components using CNC technology.
